Who's In Charge?

The Most High rules in the kingdom of men.
Daniel 4:17

The Colonies won the Revolutionary War, they were united by the Articles of Confederation, which, by 1787, had become inadequate. The colonies were on the verge of becoming thirteen small nations, and a Constitutional Convention convened to form a “more perfect union.” From the beginning, however, the writing of this new constitution was so divisive that one delegate, Oliver Ellsworth, warned, “We grow more and more skeptical as we proceed. If we do not decide soon, we shall be unable to come to any decision.”

It was the venerable Ben Franklin who struggled to his feet to ask: “In this situation of this assembly, groping as it were in the dark to find political truth, and scarce able to distinguish it when presented to us, how has it happened that we have not hitherto once thought of humbly applying to the Father of lights to illumine our understanding?”

Franklin was right. It isn’t our government but our God who rules in the affairs of men. Let’s pray for our leaders; for without God’s illumination, none of them has answers to times like these.

It is impossible to rightly govern the world without God and the Bible.
George Washington
